This Disclaimer explains how you should use the information on theburrowbrief.com, and the limits of what our small pet care guides can do for you and your animal.

Our guides are not a substitute for a vet
Everything on The Burrow Brief is general information for education only. We are not veterinarians, and nothing on this website is veterinary, medical or professional advice.
If you have any concern about your pet’s health, contact a qualified veterinarian, ideally one experienced with small animals or exotics.
1. Veterinary disclaimer
Our team researches every guide using trusted animal welfare organizations and veterinary references, as described in our Editorial Policy. Even so, our content is written to help you understand common care topics. It is not written to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any illness in your animal.
Reading our guides does not create a veterinarian–client relationship between you and The Burrow Brief or KCS Global Group. Never ignore professional veterinary advice, or delay getting it, because of something you read on this website. Do not give your pet any medicine, supplement or treatment based only on our content.
2. When to contact a vet
Small animals such as hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and rabbits often hide signs of illness until they are seriously unwell. A problem that looks small can become an emergency quickly.
Contact a vet straight away if your pet
- Has trouble breathing
- Stops eating or drinking
- Stops passing droppings or urine
- Has diarrhea or a wet, dirty rear end
- Is bleeding or has a wound
- Is very quiet, weak or hiding more than usual
- Has had a fall or injury
- Has swelling, lumps or discharge from the eyes or nose
This list is not complete. If something about your pet seems wrong, trust your instinct and call a vet. We cannot give advice about individual animals by email.
3. Every pet is different
Species, breed, age, health history and living conditions all affect what is right for your animal. A recommendation that suits most pets may not suit yours. Use our guides as a starting point, and adjust them with your vet’s advice and your knowledge of your own pet.
4. Accuracy and updates
We work hard to keep our guides accurate and current, and we show the last updated date on every article. However, animal care research and welfare standards change over time, and trusted sources sometimes disagree with each other. We cannot guarantee that every guide is complete, current or free of errors at all times.
Recommended measurements, such as cage sizes, are based on published welfare guidance at the time of writing. Where sources disagree, we explain the difference in the article.
5. Product information
When we mention or compare products, such as cages, bedding, wheels or food, details like sizes, materials, prices and availability come from manufacturers, retailers or our own research at the time of writing. These details can change without notice. Always check the current product details with the seller before you buy.
Mentioning a product does not mean we guarantee its quality, safety or suitability for your pet. Always supervise your pet with any new product and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
6. Affiliate disclaimer
Some guides contain affiliate links. If you buy a product after clicking one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This income helps keep our guides free.
Affiliate relationships never decide what we recommend. We recommend products based on our research and on what is good for the animal. Read our full Affiliate Disclosure for details.
7. Advertising
The Burrow Brief shows ads served by third parties, including Google. We do not choose the specific ads you see, and showing an ad does not mean we endorse the advertiser or its products. Our editorial content is kept separate from advertising. Learn how ads use cookies in our Privacy Policy.
8. External links and sources
Our guides link to outside websites, such as animal welfare organizations, veterinary references and retailers, so you can check our sources and learn more. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices. A link to an organization does not mean that organization has reviewed or endorsed our content.
9. Local laws and pet ownership
Rules about keeping, breeding, selling or importing small animals are different in every country, state and city. Some species may be restricted where you live. Our content does not give legal advice. Check the rules with your local authority before getting, breeding or rehoming an animal.
10. Comments and opinions
If comments are enabled, they reflect the views of the people who write them, not the views of The Burrow Brief or KCS Global Group. We do not check every comment for accuracy. Do not rely on advice in the comments for your pet’s health.
11. Limitation of liability
You use the information on this website at your own risk. To the fullest extent allowed by law, KCS Global Group, The Burrow Brief and our team members are not liable for any loss, injury, illness or damage to you or your animal that results from using, or relying on, any content on this website. More details are in our Terms of Use.
12. Report an error
If you believe something in one of our guides is wrong, out of date or could put an animal at risk, please tell us. Include the link to the article and, if possible, the source that shows the correct information.
