This page explains how The Burrow Brief researches, writes, checks and updates every guide, which sources we trust, and how we keep our advice independent from advertising and affiliate income.

1. Our mission
The Burrow Brief exists to give owners of hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits and other small animals clear, practical and accurate care information. Much small pet advice online is outdated, repeated from old forum posts, or written only to sell products. We want every guide we publish to be something an owner can trust and act on.
2. Who creates our content
The Burrow Brief is published by KCS Global Group, a digital publishing company in Durg, Chhattisgarh, India. Our team of seven people researches, writes, edits and updates our guides. You can read more on our About Us page.
We are not veterinarians, and we do not present ourselves as veterinary experts. Our role is to research what trusted welfare organizations and veterinary references say, compare it carefully, and explain it clearly. For health questions about your own pet, always contact a vet. See our Disclaimer.
Every article shows who published it and when it was last updated, so you know how current the information is.
3. How we create every guide
Every article on The Burrow Brief goes through the same five steps before it is published.
Choose a real owner question
We pick topics based on what small pet owners actually search for and ask, such as how big a hamster cage should be or which bedding is safe. Each guide answers one clear question well.
Research trusted sources
We study guidance from the sources listed in section 4, and we record every fact, figure and measurement we plan to use along with where it came from.
Analyze and compare
We compare recommendations across sources, check whether they agree, and turn the findings into clear answers, tables and comparisons that owners can use.
Write, edit and fact-check
A writer drafts the guide in plain language. A second team member then checks it against the sources, confirms every number and measurement, and reviews it for clarity and safety before it is published.
Publish, monitor and update
After publishing, we review guides regularly and whenever care standards change or a reader reports a problem, as explained in sections 10 and 11.
4. Sources we use
We rank sources by how reliable they are, and we prefer the highest level available for every claim.
| Level | Type of source | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Highest | Animal welfare organizations and veterinary references | RSPCA, PDSA, Blue Cross, Merck Veterinary Manual, AVMA |
| High | Peer-reviewed research and university animal science resources | Published studies on small animal behavior, housing and nutrition |
| Supporting | Official product information | Manufacturer specifications for dimensions, materials and safety |
| Not used as evidence | Forums, social media and unsourced blogs | We may read these to understand owner questions, but never as proof of a fact |
For important facts and measurements, we link directly to the original source inside the article so you can check it yourself. We do not copy text from other websites, and we do not invent statistics, quotes or expert opinions.
5. When sources disagree
Trusted sources sometimes give different advice. Minimum cage sizes, for example, vary between organizations and countries. When this happens, we:
- Show the different recommendations and who makes them
- Explain why they might differ, where that is known
- Recommend the option that gives the animal the most welfare benefit
- Say clearly when evidence is limited or still uncertain
6. Our animal welfare standards
We only recommend care practices and products that support an animal’s physical health and natural behavior. This means:
- We do not recommend cages, wheels, bedding or accessories that fall below welfare guidance, even if they are widely sold as suitable
- We point out when a common product or practice may cause stress, injury or illness
- We encourage responsible ownership, including vet care, correct housing and research before getting a pet
7. How we use AI tools
Our team may use AI tools to help with parts of our work, such as organizing research notes, planning article structure or improving the clarity of a draft. AI tools never replace our research, judgment or fact-checking.
- Every fact, figure and measurement is checked by a person against a trusted source before publishing
- We do not publish AI-generated content without human research, editing and review
- We do not use AI to create fake experiences, reviews, quotes or expert opinions
- Our team is responsible for everything we publish, however it was drafted
8. Product recommendations
When we recommend or compare products, we base our choices on welfare guidance, product specifications such as size and materials, and research into how owners use them. We explain what makes a product suitable, and we point out its limitations.
We state honestly how we evaluated a product. We only say we have tested or used a product when a member of our team has actually done so.
9. Editorial independence
The Burrow Brief earns money through ads and affiliate links. This keeps our guides free to read, but it never decides what we write or recommend.
- Affiliate commissions do not affect which products we recommend or how we rank them
- Brands cannot pay to be included in our guides or to change what we say about them
- If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labeled as sponsored
- Our editorial team has no control over which ads Google shows on the website

10. Keeping guides up to date
We review our guides regularly to check that sources, recommendations, product details and links are still current. We also update a guide straight away when:
- A trusted organization changes its care guidance
- New research changes what we know about a topic
- A recommended product changes or is discontinued
- A reader or team member reports an error
When we make a meaningful update, we change the “last updated” date on the article.
11. Corrections policy
We take mistakes seriously, especially when they could affect an animal’s health or safety. If you find an error, email contact@theburrowbrief.com with the link to the article, a description of the problem and, if possible, a source that shows the correct information.
Our team reviews every correction request. When we confirm an error:
- We fix it as soon as possible, giving priority to anything that could put an animal at risk
- For significant factual errors, we add a short correction note to the article explaining what changed
- Small fixes, such as typos or broken links, are corrected without a note
12. Feedback and contact
We welcome questions about how we work, topic suggestions and feedback on our guides.
